Chester FC: Reaction to Blue Square Bet North title victory

Manager Neil Young: “Since we’ve been at this football club we’ve lost 10 league games, which is an incredible achievement. There are some big teams in this league who have lost 10 games this season – we’ve lost 10 in three years. We work very hard at it and all credit to the players because they are the ones who have to go out there and perform – and that’s just not this season, it’s the last three seasons. We had every belief we could win this league but I never believed we could win it so comfortably. We worked so hard over the summer preparing for it. My family and Gary Jones’ family gave us so much time to do it and continue to give us so much time to do it. Apart from the birth of my two children it’s the proudest day of my life.”Honorary life president Barrie Hipkiss: “I’m overwhelmed, it’s unbelievable. I’ve seen promotions, relegations, been through the Smith days and the bad days – I’ve seen it all. But this is a high and it’s right up there with the best days, the Alan Oakes days that I remember. I just hope we can keep it going. People may think we can just keep winning, winning and winning but that’s not realistic. You’ve got to be realistic or otherwise we’ll be in the Championship in four years! So I’m hoping for stability in the Conference.”Chairman Tony Durkin: “I’ve been a supporter of this club all my life, loved it, sponsored it and watched if from the terraces and now, as chairman, to be able to preside over what is fantastic football team put together by Neil Young is just tremendous. I’m blown away by it all. Neil’s a legend. If you think back three seasons when we reformed we didn’t have a squad going into the first season. The man’s a genius in my opinion and he’s done more than anyone could have expected from him.”Assistant manager Gary Jones: “I gauge how a good a season it’s been on how many times I lose my head or Youngy loses his head, going in there kicking tea cups and smashing bins. We’ve only done it twice this season, the first being Boston away and then Worksop in the FA Trophy, so we know we’ve had a good season! Fair play to the lads.”Director Jeff Banks: “The feeling now is absolute elation. For Lewis score his first goal and the 100th goal of the season – it’s just the perfect day.” “Since we’ve been at this football club we’ve lost 10 league games, which is an incredible achievement. There are some big teams in this league who have lost 10 games this season – we’ve lost 10 in three years. We work very hard at it and all credit to the players because they are the ones who have to go out there and perform – and that’s just not this season, it’s the last three seasons.
