Q.Why is the work taking place?

A.Hoole Bridge is one of 10,000 road-over-rail bridges that has been assessed to ensure that it is fit for purpose. To comply with EU regulations, five of the 15 spans need to be strengthened or replaced. Without this work, the bridge would have to be weight restricted and only one lane of traffic would be allowed over the bridge with traffic signals at each end. Read
